Welcome to Printmakers Association of Western Australia

The Printmakers Association of Western Australia currently provides its members with studio access, workshops, exhibiting opportunities, print exchanges, and monthly newsletters. The e-newsletters communicate these opportunities as well as providing news and photos of members exhibitions and upcoming events.

PAWA was established on 6th July 1974 by a group of enthusiastic printmakers with John Fairhall elected as the first President. The old Perth Technical College was the base for the members to work and meet as an independent group of Printmakers that maintained a close alliance with the Print Council of Australia. At the first PAWA exhibition sixty prints were on display at the Undercroft Gallery UWA and the entry fee was $1.

In 1976 the group incorporated a constitution within the association. An overview of its objects were to “further a knowledge and appreciation in the traditions of printmaking” and “to promote and encourage experimentation in and production of prints.”

With our base now at Tresillian Arts Centre Nedlands, exhibitions and networking are still a large part of the driving force for PAWA. With at least 2 exhibitions held annually for its members over the last 40 years, it still is a great way for Printmakers in WA to emerge or remain current and flourish in their practice.
